If using to secure a chain or rope, you may need another fixture, like a snap hook, to attach the end of the chain or rope to the staple.To use a staple to secure a door or gate, you will also need a hasp and a weather-resistant padlock to keep the door or gate locked.The hasp is fitted to the front of the door, and the staple is fitted to the door frame. To secure the door or gate, the hasp flips over and slides over the staple.
